Why do you always hear lawyers, myself included, tell people to NEVER speak to the cops?
You’ve probably heard people say this is ridiculous. Just have a reasonable conversation with the cops and tell them you haven’t done anything wrong. Don’t do this! While some cops may be reasonable, what if you are unlucky and get a cop who is already convinced you’re guilty and every wrong thing you say is a tally mark ticking against you? Even. your body language can be used against you! As a defense attorney, I have seen so many instances of an innocent client getting into trouble with the cops for no reason. So, my advice, along with a vast majority of lawyers, is to NEVER talk to the cops without your defense attorney present.

What if I have a minor in the car. What changes
Honest doesn't count. I have a cousin who's second husband. At family occasions brags about his job. He tells us about 5-6 things he should have not have been proud of. I don't think he realizes I not only worked at a defense attorneys office in high school. Or that I wanted to be a lawyer sense 6th grade. He's a bad cop.
Cops will twist anything you say and completely change what you said into something else.
If you'd like an example I was involved in an accidenthe light was green I pulled forward into the intersection I like turned yellow I sat there and sat there until all the traffic head stopped the light had turned red but I wasn't the center of the intersection so I made my turn to leave the intersection when a car which had previously not been there in the 5 seconds before somehow crossed 400 yd of road and slammed into me knowing full well that there's a turnaround on this life I knew that the arrow had turned green on the opposing Traffic this means that the light in front of me and behind me were both red period flat out absolate no possibility of being everything but rap so after I was hit I gave my statement to the police officer saying that I waited in the intersection through the entire yellow light and when it turned red I began my turn I left in the Ambulance. The police officer passed my report to another officer and then passed it back to another officer so all of a sudden my statement was I was trying to beat the red light so I got thrown under the bus by the insurance company the kid claimed That his light was green I found a witness who stated that I was struck while the Turner was green but you see the police officers didn't bother to ask The correct questions at the time.
So don't Volunteer information. The cops will Rewrite it. If you make a statement make sure they put it on paper and make sure they give a copy of it to you before they take you away in the ambulance even if you're about to die.
Because cops lie cops don't give a damn about you and will let you die rather than safety 95% of the time. And we are happy for the 5% somebody throw the 95% off of a tall cliff with a rocky shore below.
