If you’re ever in a situation where you practiced self-defense, make sure to call 911 and report it immediately. If you don’t, many police will assume you are the guilty one. Cops tend to think only victims call 911, so if the true aggressor makes the call first, they may think you’re guilty.
If the cops do start interrogating you, remember to invoke your fifth amendment right to remain silent and your sixth amendment right to counsel right away.

It truly doesn’t come down to them believing you or not it comes down to the judge . Never ever talk to the police , they weren’t there and they will just assume. Quite honestly and chances are they will arrest both of you and sort it out at the station when everyone is lawyered up. Again never talk to or trust a cop they’re not your friend, trust me they’re not!
Police aren't trained well. They don't learn about human behavior beyond how they can manipulate to dominate instead of protecting and serving.
