Watching a negotiation between a criminal defense lawyer and state attorney at the courthouse

It was fun to watch. I was a fly on the wall. Kudos to the young prosecutor that stood up to the seasoned attorney. Congrats to the lead in the division for backing his decision. The entire negotiation was done without argument or insult. The defense attorney pushed that line a little with his arrogance but overall it was civil. He did mumble some inappropriate language as he left the courtroom but I chalk that up to heat of the moment.

  1. I completely understand your position regarding animal abuse cases. I lose all sense of control when I am aware of an animal being abused.

The recognition of such things can send me into a spiral that can cause me to be in a different dimension where my reaction can be counter productive. Contraily I can be "head in the sand", "visors on" to avoid the associated evil. Very difficult for me to find the proper balance and self control to deal with. Difficult to explain in words. But I can relate.

I hope to one day find a way to manage the associated emotions, which I hope perhaps one day may contribute to my capacity to being more productive/effective regarding being able to have some kind of positve impact. I have a lot of work to do in this regard.

I know what I am saying here may sound contusing. But, I think you can relate

  2. Did you hear about the on again / off again religious attorney who was late to the courthouse ? Yea..atty's got to be in the courtroom at 930 and is running late. Gets in the parking garage…to and fro, back and forth…not a space in sight. Whatta my going to do…the client, judge are in the courtroom already. He says God I need your help. I'll go to church every Sunday, I'll be a better husband and man, tithe what I'm supposed to…Just help me find a space this one time…..Before you know it, In a Blink of an Eye !! right in front of him a car pulls out !!! Can you believe it !! A parking space ! ……In an instant the guy pulls himself together…..then says…. "Never mind God — I just found one…!

  3. Thank you for sharing that story😊 sounds like the defense attorney was trying to be a little bit of a bully and it didn't work good on the young man for standing up to him and his boss for backing him up

  4. I can't stone a guy for trying and I have to at least give the defense some credit for vigorously defending his client. Honestly if Im negotiating for a client I dont always give away everything I have in that negotiation to the other side. Even when I write civil actions I retain a little in anticipation of their answer. If they negotiated and it was civil then I can give credit to both sides for at least acting in good faith. Good faith should still mean something in law and I'm always glad to see it.
