From Law & Order Season 19, Episode 10 ‘Pledge’: Harold and Joyce Foley (guest stars Stephen Kunken and Erin Dilly), both well-known biologists at a local university, come home to find their young son Eric (guest star Timothee Chalamet) and the housekeeper brutally murdered. Detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) believe that the Foley’s work on a controversial pharmaceutical study made them targets for the killer.

The killer was Ned Lasky. He killed the kid to show the latter’s mother what its was like to lose someone she loved in retaliation for her ruining Lasky’s chances with a girl he was in love with decades prior.
The girl he had a crush on was transferred to another university and Lasky wasted his life looking for her, even when he got married and had a daughter (whom he abused) with someone else.
The housekeeper was killed because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Had the kid’s friend stayed, he would’ve likely been killed as well.
Lasky even went as far as to send the kid’s parents a lock of the kid’s hair in a card after killing him and harassed them at the kid’s funeral. In the end, Lasky was arrested and received two concurrent sentences of thirty years.
Before that, EADA Cutter revealed to Lasky that the girl that he was looking for was murdered eight years prior by her husband during an argument.
