Honestly, I got to fluency in English only thanks to the internet. Now I spend most time on the English speaking side of it so I know most English slang which is A LOT more than the new slang words from my own country😂

I think if a foreign language is important in the country you live in and you wanna be considered to be proficient at it you are forced to be better, much better than your native language. Because the most widely used method of rating someone proficiency is tests, and tests demand really abundant and unnecessary knowledge from exam takers. I'm studying for IELTS and I dread I'd probably have to talk about shits I don't care about like shopping, sports, and hobbies. I couldn't even give any half- good conversation about these things in my native language.
I learned to speak English as a kid from Dexter's Lab on Cartoon Network. So, I was the only kid in an Indian school speaking English with a fake Russian accent for some reason.
It’s funny cause Joey can’t go 15 seconds without saying “like” I’m guessing having an American girlfriend does that to you.
My English used to be a lot more proper, until I moved to America. It all went downhill.
