  1. "Why are you helping that cold-blood killer?!" said Phoenix, to another cold-blooded killer

  2. I'm glad to say I also didn't know about this reveal so it hit really nicely, unfortunately also made him hotter though 😔

  3. The Magatama got bested by mere semantics. Asking directly if Matt killed Corrida didn't trigger the Psyche Locks, but asking if he had anything to do with Corrida's death certainly would have…

The former was technically the truth, as he didn't actually deliver the killing blow to Juan
But the latter… anything other than a "yes" would have been a lie

  4. I figured there be some kind of Dippio esque reveal, no on can talk to themselves like that without hiding something. It’s still pretty shocking to actually see. How do you win in this case?

  5. I feel like the limited understanding of the Law in the Ace Attorney universe makes it hard to really dig into the role of a defense attorney.
It's worthwhile to confront the question if, "What does a defense attorney do if they know their client is guilty?" But there's more to being someone's attorney than just standing up and trying to get a 'not guilty' verdict. An attorney will work with their client long after the trial, advocating for them–pushing for more lenient sentences, for parole, for fair treatment within the system. The core idea is that even the worst scumbags in the world deserve to have someone on their side arguing their case, rather than just being hammered by a judge's pique.
But Ace Attorney cases end at the trial. If the defendant is found guilty, it's just a game over–no chance for appeals, no advocating for them in sentencing hearings, nothing like that. So huge parts of a defense attorney's task, above and beyond "what if the client is guilty?" are left ignored by the narrative, and it feels like a missed opportunity.

  7. Honestly I'm surprised no one said anything about Juan Corrida. The man is a huge dumbass and jerk, he calls off a marriage because his fiancee (I had to look up whether it was this or "fiance") dated his rival before – like seriously what?

Really lessens my sympathy for him, though of course he certainly didn't deserve to be murdered.

At the same time, Adrian Andrews' decision-making is also suspect. Her reasoning is basically that Matt Engarde is a dickhead who toys with women, so he has to be the person who murdered Juan Corrida and deserves to be framed for it. There's a pretty big gap between just being a jerk and being a murderer.

  8. I love the Matt Engarde change of sprite after his reveal, it's like the biggest thing I remember about this case.

Though given the crazy amount of scars on that one side of his face, he has to be very consistent and semi-paranoid about hiding that half of his face behind a curtain of hair (like in his initial sprite), given how much it conflicts with his public image.

I honestly wonder how much of Adrian Andrews' and Juan Corrida's hatred for Matt is inspired by his true self and how much they know about it. Like for sure they know he's not as squeaky clean as his public image, but Juan Corrida for example may just have seen him as a hated rival, but not necessarily someone capable of using assassins, for example.

  9. Ugh, giving Phoenix a guilty client is sooo good and necessary. He's definitely not a perfect win record guy.

  10. Pearl with her little rolled up sleeve sprite. Just imagining Pearl smashing through the detention center window and slapping the shit out of him.

  11. 4:52 Oh my god dude I love that song, what a throwback.
Oh well I hate to be a bummer, I've brought you here to bring me plumbers; you know those brothers. Ohwhat's their names… OH YES! ~Mario & Luigi~ just the sound of them makes me queasy; I'd love to take that monkey wrench, I'd play my own game.

  12. Ignorance is Bliss is now my favorite random reference you've made. I haven't thought about that song in years

  13. On them instantly suspecting the cat to be Shoe, I believe there's some lines added in the remaster about him having a fairly recognizable meow to explain that.

  14. SungWon!!! Angel has fully caught on to the fact that "Silence means they're right." Just tell them they're right at this point! It feels so awkward to just listen to Angel get the right answer go "Am I right?" And then for you to stay in total silence

  15. love how he just straight up tells adrian that he's come to remove her psyche-lock as if she has any idea what that means. they do such a good job getting across how worn out phoenix is by the end of this day

  16. So they said that Celeste was Matt's girlfriend/manager "a long time ago" but he's supposedly only 21. Is that long time supposed to be like, 2 years, or are we having another Regina situation?

  17. Adrien like “you got me, my final secret” and she lifts her bangs to reveal a scar, but it’s just a FFS scar, and she continues bitterly like “you wanna out me on the stand a second time, Mr. Lawyer?”
Meanwhile Phoenix is just like “I don’t even know what you’re trying to tell me here I just wanna talk about Celeste” because my man is just as oblivious about transness as he is most things
