Are cops just being lazy when they come to your house and ASK to search your home without a warrant?
NO! This is actually a police tactic. Cops know it’s harder to get a judge to sign off on a search warrant, so they usually start off with doing a knock and talk. If they can make someone feel bad about exercising their fourth amendment right and get their consent to search, they just saved themselves a ton of trouble.
As a lawyer, I suggest saying NO to searches without a warrant. In fact, don’t even answer the door when the cops come knocking so they don’t have an opportunity to use their police tactics on you.

They trashed my house because they couldn't find anything then gave me a public nuisance abatement. Jokes on them, the last thing they should have done was put me on the move. At least I'm one place they were able to build some kind of case. They eventually just used the age old tactic of making stuff up. And I got caught with the drugs, but I wouldn't have been caught if they didn't lie about everything.
