Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has landed in hot water after she appeared to have forgotten a fundamental principle of criminal law in her response to the indictment of former President Donald Trump. Pelosi, who took to Twitter to express her views on the matter, was quick to draw criticism from legal experts and social media users alike.
In her tweet, the 83-year-old California Democrat wrote, “The Grand Jury has acted upon the facts and the law. No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence. Hopefully, the former President will peacefully respect the system, which grants him that right.”
However, her failure to recognize that Trump is granted the presumption of innocence, one of the most basic requirements of a fair trial and an internationally recognized human right by the United Nations, sparked outrage among Twitter users. Harmeet Dhillon, a former Trump campaign legal adviser, was among those who called out Pelosi, reminding her that “We don’t have to prove our innocence in America, Mrs. Pelosi.” Thanks for watching, subscribe our channel for Authenticity.
