my hyundai locked up engine in the middle of highway.
A power failure and subsequent reverse attempt ( to stop its forward momentum) may have caused the ship to diverge from the outbound shipping lane. There are reports that the port anchor was deployed. To little to late. Takes a lot to stop that much ship.

Ship lost power a few minutes after leaving port of Baltimore. MAERSK DALI was outbound from Baltimore, destination Sri Lanka.
🙄 if only there was some kind of technology that could have prevented this,, like high intensity lights, having people on duty watching for ships, hight sencing devices, checking a ships height before they get close to a bridge 🌉 being guided by tug boats, a rapid response team in helicopters to drop down on the deck etc, etc.. or you could just hire some old person for night watch that falls asleep 😴
Ships entering ports are normally under the control of a local pilot. If that is the case, all responsibility falls on the pilot.
Probably the ship captain was a drunk Russian
This is why you should not wear seat belts. This kind of crash will kill you if you do.
