LIVE COURT CAM: MI v. JAMES CRUMBLEY – DAY 1 – The father of a Michigan school shooter will stand trial for his role in the 2021 Oxford High School shooting, one month after his wife was convicted of the same charges. James Crumbley is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter after his son killed four students and injured seven people on Nov. 30, 2021. Prosecutors will try to prove that James, like his wife Jennifer Crumbley, caused his son’s actions through gross negligence or by willfully disregarding the threat he posed to others by failing to act on signs that he may be dangerous. In February, Jennifer was convicted of four counts of involuntary manslaughter. She is scheduled to be sentenced April 9.

  2. Parents aren't being negligent when the kid has to sneak into the parents room and steal the gun and ammo to commit the crime. Let's use our brains, folks. We're being played by the prosecution for their own political self interests.

  3. I believe parents of shooter SHOULD BE held accountable. In this case, both parents were extremely negligent. The mother brushed off her son's comments as if they were casual friends. She CHOSE TO IGNORE all the red flags. The father also ignored all the red flags from his son. Parents should be held accountable.

  4. I find it ridiculous that we can hear what he is discussing with his lawyer. That is a violation of his rights.

  5. ULTIMATELY HE PURCHASED THE GUN SOOOO RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFE STORAGE OF IT ALL THE REST IS TRAGIC 🤦‍♀️😑🫤 MOTHER 👩🏼 IS MORE IRRESPONSIBLE OF MUCH OF THIS BECAUSE SHE ALSO DID NOT FOLLOW SAFETY RULES. SAD SAD SAD-PRAYERS FOR THE FAMILIES OF THE VICTIMS 😑🙏🏽MAYBE A BIT OF LENIENCE FOR NOT HAVING KNOWN IT WAS LEFT OUT BUT ULTIMATELY YES IM AFRAID HE IS THE OWNER OF SAID GUN IM AFRAID 🫵

  6. I agree that both patents failed their son. I just worry that their successful prosecution will set a dangerous precedent that will affect the working poor more than anyone.

  7. It is very unprofessional for the defense lawyer to be shaking her head "No" while the prosecutor is making opening statements. I might expect that of a defendant but not from an attorney. If the prosecutor can prove what he says in the opening statement I would find James Crumbley guilty.of gross negligence. It was a very good opening statement. Defense attorney is making James Crumbley out to be very dense and rather stupid. I wonder what behaviour Crumbley engaged in to have his communications revoked.

  8. The old joke holds true: those who have no kids are the experts on parenting. Theses people have no idea.

  9. Defense is doing a good job. I'm hoping she lays out for the jury the fact that the gun was James'. He brought it, it was in his name. Minors are not allowed to legally own a gun. That said, when Ethan took the gun from mom and dad's room (a theft) to commit a crime with it, Ethan assumed full responsibility for his actions.

Also, the prosecution case is basically saying that Ethan is a victim of his parents, probably using the crazy statements in his journal. The defense needs to turn that around and show the jury how evil Ethan was, his lies, his deception, and his betrayal of his parents house rules. The defense needs to get the jury to believe dad's word over the son's crazy words from the journal.

  10. WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING A TRIAL, JURIES ARE CONVICTING EVERYBODY NOW. MOM HAS BEEN CONVICTED AND HE WAS MORE INVOLVED THAN SHE WAS.

  11. The USA I'm sad to note keeps cleaning up the symptoms but not addressing the root cause and that's to tighten up their firearm laws and stop the indiscriminate sales of weapons in a country that's children and the mentally deranged can too easily obtain arms for nefarious reasons.

  12. So the school has no responsibility for this either, a teacher had the booksack in their hand. It's a question from what I have learned on Court TV , schools are mandated reporters and should have called the police, and after seeing the drawings, the booksack should have been checked. I wonder if the parents are going to have a civil lawsuit against the district. Everyone has to have to be held accountable, so this wants to happen again.

  13. Ethan has demons, horrific plans, he also is extremely smart. Maybe he is using his parents and not always telling the truth . He could have been playing mind games with his parents waiting for a parent each time to give in to him. Some parents may call his mental state a phase. Ethan spent more time is school vs home? Teachers know best they would say, I’m thinking he played everyone. Gun laws need to be changed, screening at the schools before enter. Both father and son have failed by not having the gun locked. Gun safety. Justice for the victims Just sayin…..

  14. These parents had all the time to visit the gun range and spend hours with their horses but they didn't have time to look after their son's health or supervise him and make him clean his room. Their whole house was dirty.
