Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the young armorer serving an 18-month prison sentence for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, will ask the judge to throw out her case based on discovery violations. The new motion comes after a judge dismissed the case against actor Alec Baldwin after prosecutors failed to turn over ballistic evidence that could have helped Baldwin with his defense. Gutierrez-Reed had already asked to be released citing another discovery violation. Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy talks with Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney, Jason Bowles, and armorer, Dutch Merrick, in this episode of Crime Fix — a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

  1. Kari wanted to send Baldwin to jail, no doubt.
I believe though that Hannah should’ve checked the gun… to make sure there were no real bullets.
    Or did I missed something?
    Honest question.
A young woman/mom/wife is dead. Someone is responsible for her death so who placed the bullet in the gun?

  2. Baldwin may have been a little sloppy with managing the production but he certainly had nothing to do with the death of Hutchins. He'd hired an armorer specifically and precisely to avoid this type of incident. He never should have been charged, no more than charging the CEO of Boeing with hundreds of cases of manslaughter for the loss of so many people because of bad engineering. Baldwin has already suffered tremendously for that event. The whole case was an effort for a prosecutor to get her 15 minutes of fame.

  3. Since when is Troy Teske a judge? This is why I can't watch these information distortion channels.

  4. I honestly thought Elaine took the trophy for least likeable lawyer then this woman was like hold my beer!

  5. Okay. I totally baffled. Someone shows up with a case of live rounds and states the box comes from the movie set, how do we all know that?

  6. This is a right-wing Red State prosecutor who thought she had a liberal Hollywood actor by the balls and one that had been making fun of Donald Trump from day one at that.
She wasn't about to let some exculpatory evidence into that case.

  7. Oh nobody, but nobody should be going to jail, or charged, anything for this tragic accident. It was an accident. A mistake. It happens. It’s a dangerous career. Everybody involved understood the risks. Including the victim. It is shocking that this has not happened more often.nobody should be facing charges in this death. Regardless of any wrongdoing done by the prosecutor.

  8. Man, out of like 6 replies I made to various comments, only one survived. Why are these comments being so heavily sanitized? None of my comments were inappropriate in any way.

  9. Morrisey thought she could make a name for herself from this high profile case. She did, a bad name called “incompetence “.

  10. Isn't what Morrissey did a Brady Violation? Is she being sanctioned or possibly disbarred?

  11. I hope it doesn’t affect Gutierrez’s conviction b/c if anyone is responsible, the armorer certainly is.

  12. Morrissey thought this was going to be the trial that made her famous. Now she is just notorious.

  13. The motive is he made fun of Trump and America is so messed up right now that's all it takes…

  14. During Seth Kenney's interrogation, I find it odd how automatically he called Troy Teske in which he knew had some ammo that may look similar. Why would Seth do that? At one point did that ammo also go through his hands? I wondered about that. Also after reading Hannah's lawsuit against PDQ Props, I'm not so sure there wasn't something snaky going on with Seth.

  15. I'm confused — during Baldwin trial – they said Teske didn't bring in the bullet until AFTER the Hannah Gutierrez trial, but this sounds like they were available and turned in right before or during ….. which is it!??

  16. The reference to the Twilight zone film is unfortunate. The two child actors and actor Vic Morrow were killed. There was a trial but the director was (wrongly) exonerated. However, he had an explosion set off near the helicopter above these 3 individuals in a night shoot, the helicopter came down on them and killed them.. The decisions made by the people on the set were so appalling. Egregious error is a vast , vast, understatement.

  17. I don't understand this issue at all. Seems to me it's a mere technicality. So Miss Hutchins died with no justice delivered? It seems to have no bearing on the fact that a careless kid loaded a live bullet into that gun. Fact. Why does it matter where it came from? The judge has allowed herself to be grossly distracted from the central case. Alec Murdaugh's second judge would not have been similarly distracted. She should have thrown out this absurd and irrelevant objection from the defence.

  18. Yeah I’m not saying that the talking heads are wrong here, I agree with a lot of it. But exactly how big would the movie armourer community be? I’m thinking not huge and that armourer they have on is almost definitely a buddy of Hannah’s dad. I obviously have zero proof but just the way he talked, “first live rounds ever in history on a movie set” was just a little too hyperbolic. Also, I watched her trial and her lawyer was no great litigator. Oh and Kari is trash lol

  19. "Didn't want a public trial!" Ummm that sounds like something a defendant might want not the prosecution. The prosecutor is coming off as incompetent and grasping at straws to deflect responsibility for her lack of professionalism.

  20. Ummm please tell me that I heard that the guy testified that he supplied the live rounds to the set

  21. It wasn't just the not turning evidence over. It was also to do with police and prosecutions utter shambolic attitude towards evidence.
