I think that Mr Beer has assessed the not-a mister Singh, who is nothing but a legal secretary jumped up way beyond his capabilities. He should have stuck to being the runner who goes and buys the tea/coffee and sandwiches, with a list and the correct money.
Singh's lawyer either gave him horrible advice or Singh, probably, just ignored it. "Tell the truth, admit the non-criminal incompetency and you might just get out of this alive."
