Rishi Sunak appeared to defend Scottish writer JK Rowling today as he was questioned on her challenging the new SNP Hate Crime Law.

The Prime Minister said: ‘We should not be criminalising people saying common sense things about biological sex. Clearly, that isn’t right.’

This is after JK Rowling said she is “looking forward to being arrested” under new hate crime laws in Scotland after unleashing a flurry of sarcastic tweets ridiculing the bill.

The Harry Potter author slated the Hate Crime Act, which finally came into force yesterday, in a social media post.

  1. Great Rishi, but we are not talking about free child care here, we are talking about free speech

  2. It is his religion what is the problem. There is more compassion in Christianity than in his religion. Anyway, as our (so called) Prime Minister he should be above taking sides which puts peoples safety at risk.

  3. No I don’t want to listen to this gentleman at all to watch a load of nonsense thank you

  4. You’ve done the right thing for a change our payment is done the right thing for a change I’m glad to hear this news I was disgusting what they’re doing up Scotland I’m glad you’re not doing what are you doing up there expect to do the same I’m up there we have done done the opposite as I thought thank you very much but time is it’s a bit right now I could tell you what to do next but won’t bother

  5. If there's any one Trans or non binary out there reading these comments, its important to me that you know your not alone. These bigots are thick as mince and you have millions of allies out there. You are better than they will ever be. This will pass.

  6. ‘It is right for me to comment on individual police matters’ – Wrong! It’s not only his right to stand up forcibly for free speech but also proclaim loudly that these hate laws have no place in British society. Sunak shows his weakness once again.

  7. I love how the tories have no argument against trans rights except "its common sense". This is the largest political party in the UK, who have been in power for about 15 years, and they can't string together a full thought on the only platform they're basing their 2024 campaign on, the only thing they can do is tell you to take their assertions of fact at face value and avoid skepticism.

  8. As a country who have legends like william wallace and robert the bruce who fought and died for the 'freedom's' you have to this very day i can only imagine how 99.9% of scottish people are feeling. Ive never even seen or heard of this puppet whos the leader of your country until this law was passed, isnt he muslim too? Im so confused.

  9. Freedom of speech is paramount and really matters to everyone. Let us discern for ourselves what is hate speech. Sensible people just ignore it anyway.

  10. Two of the wealthiest tax dodgers in the uk form new band wagon to distract nation from the severity of our wealth gap

  11. SUNAK COULD'NT SUPPORT A CUSTARD PIE ~~~ AS USUAL ~~~ HE JUST GOES WITH THE FLOW ~~~ WHILE GIVING THAT 'SICK SMILE' HE MUST PRACTICE FOR HOURS IN A MIRROR.

  12. Except we dont have free speech here.
You can i fact go to prison for the words you use.
    This man is a weasel

  13. Rishi says this, and yet it all came to rise under a Tory government. If he didn’t agree with it in some way why was I spoken to by police in the U.K. about stuff I said online? I don’t get why Tories think they can blame other parties for culture and immigration stuff that they literally grew since taking charge.

  14. I’m so glad that Scotland has solved all the real crimes and now the police have plenty of free time to become the feelings police. 🙄
