Elizabeth addressed the following question from a reporter on April 30, 2024 about comments made by Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre regarding criminal justice in Canada:
“You might have seen…Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre suggested last night that if he’s elected, he will use the notwithstanding clause to push through his criminal justice reforms, like bail changes and keeping people convicted of murder in maximum security prisons for their entirety of their sentence. What do you make of his suggestion that he’ll use the notwithstanding clause to push through changes like that?

Poillievre becoming PM would be the last nail in the coffin of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
When I learned about the Charter in elementary school, it seemed like a brilliant tool. Incredibly useful for us to use to strike down the brutal laws that don't make sense that get passed in today's hyper partisan world.
It's heartbreaking to see us go down this path. I feel like we're losing Canada. Poillievre has to be stopped. People need to pay attention as we go into the next election.
