Police Scotland has reportedly received over 3,000 complaints under the SNP’s new hate crime laws since they were implemented this week.
Former Scottish Police Federation general secretary Calum Steele stated that approximately 3,800 cases were lodged within the previous 24 hours and critics have raised concerns that the legislation could be exploited by trans activists.
JK Rowling cautioned Police Scotland against pursuing any woman for misgendering trans individuals, after the force dismissed initial complaints against her under the new hate crime laws. The Harry Potter author stated that all women in Scotland would feel reassured by the announcement that her belief regarding trans women’s gender identity not being criminalised.
Rowling directly challenged Police Scotland, stating her expectation that all women expressing similar views should be treated equally under the law, regardless of their public profile or financial status.

If a piece of legislation is launched which subsequently requires the FM to clarify that the threshold for something to be considered a crime under it is extremely high, just shows what a terribly written piece of legislation it is. Unfortunately this is the key problem with trying to police words and feelings.
