Dog meat banned by South Korea: BBC News Review

South Korea has passed a law banning the killing and sale of dogs for their meat. Dog meat isn’t as popular as it used to be in the country – research shows only one in five people are in favour of eating it. The law will come into effect in 2027, which gives farmers and restaurant owners three years to adjust to the change.

  1. It was an usual a great video and also great decision by the government of South Korea to banned the consume of dogs. Here in Chile our pets are considered part of our family.

  2. Getting dog meat off the menu in South Korea is history in the making because it has been a centuries-old industry. However, animal campaigners are overjoyed for this law to come into effect in 2027.

  3. Establishment of BBC Learning English is history in the making especially the live videos which overjoyed every learner but unfortunately live videos became off the menu suddenly and everyone get disappointed 😔!!

  4. next Japan plz. there are dog meat restaurants and canned dog meats at grocery store in chinatown in Japan.

  5. I was happy when I heard that news. Eating Dog is rare in South Korea. It is not common!! But most people misunderstood this fact 😥

  6. In Korea here, majority despise harassing dogs as meal. Only a few old timers around over 60 to 70 aged people may try it. But treating dogs as meals already become nonsense and unacceptable issues so hardly find above mentioned restaurants also according to pet industry that have super booming up for years we have recognized which is serious problem have to kick off as soon as possible with struggling against those dark sided industries many korean suffered by.
And now I do worry if BBC is covering this news may incur spreading hatefulness toward S. Korea or racism even further. I know bunch of cases korean get engaged in racism of above mentioned subject Although who have never step into that restaurants and hate to try.
I have really much love BBC contents, kind of a fan who enjoying on daily basis. However this subject is feeling like clickbait stuffs ( I'm sorry if I'm wrong and i comment here in the first time. may grammar issue you would catch )

  8. Just remember☝️, the meat of cats and dogs is usually not eaten for one simple reason – it is not profitable for the industry. Those who say that dogs are innocent (but eat other animals) are hypocrites.

  9. I need to double down my efforts to restore my health, so traveling abroad is off the menu for the time being. 😊🎉

  10. New information and vocabulary are very useful, thank you BBC learning English for providing it. ❤❤❤❤

  11. I think the South Korean government should have banned the use of dog meat in food earlier. It's cruel to innocent animals. Where were animal rights activists looking? It's horrible. I'm sick of the thought that I could inadvertently eat meat from a dog in a diner and not suspect anything! 🤢🤮
