Watch the second half of this episode review on Legal Eagle’s channel here:

Legal Eagle and I went head to head last year to see which was harder, Med School or Law School. We decided to bury the hatchet this time and join our forces to react to the popular medical malpractice episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Season 10 Episode 9 “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”. I brought my medical knowledge about a surgery gone wrong for a snowboarder who loses his legs above the knee. Devin Stone brought his legal expertise to break down what was accurate and what was fake during the trial of Dr. Callie Torres.

I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

  1. I was admitted with rhabdomyolysis due to injuring both of my legs. They checked on me every couple of hours pretty much to ensure that not only were my kidneys still intact (no damage, we caught it early enough) but also that as my legs healed they didn't need to operate on them. Letting this guys legs turn BLACK is MIND BLOWING to me.

  2. In the defence of the court date being pushed up so quickly. He was an Olympic athlete so it could have escalated things.

  3. I still don’t understand why they wouldn’t have sent him for his cardiac surgery immediately after his “embolectomy”. Like I know the answer from the show’s perspective is because it creates drama and tension. But from a realistic standpoint, other than the fact he’s fairly sick and potentially could be unstable after the treatment on his leg, I think they could have at least re-evaluated after his first procedure to see if they could immediately proceed with another important procedure. I’m not a surgeon, but from my knowledge clot removing procedures can be done in the cath lab, which are minimally invasive, and fairly quick. I think they should have at least considered doing the procedures back to back, regardless of the order of importance.

Frustrations aside, I still love Grey’s and loved seeing this analysis! Would love to see more crossovers between you two!

  4. 7:07 I have double above the knee amputations because I'm a paraplegic and I've had troubles with pressure sores first on my hips which led to osteomyelitis, my wound care doctor took care of by doing partial femorectomies then I had sores on my ankles because of bad blood flow and they got infected so I lost my legs and since my femers weren't connected anymore she had to go ATK. It's so much easier to get around now that I've lost 20lbs of dead weight.

  5. So now he's gotta be in the Para Olympics instead of the regular one. Big deal. Those people are far more impressive to watch than an over-trained fully able person anyway. These TV shows have a good episode or two a season, but it's not much fun to watch without a lot of conflict in the storyline. Looking for any kind of realism in the show is kinda silly.

  6. Can Legal Eagle not listen? Torres never made promises. They tried to pressure her into making promises and she didn’t! He probably went home without a fever. The SO said she had to drag him in.

  7. You mention "they're not just passively laying there"

Until you said that I had never considered that. I've been in and out of hospitals quite a bit in my life. Lots of lung issues, blood issues, immune system issues. I've never considered the detailed care I got while in the hospital each time because my brain classified the in between stuff as unnecessary. Like driving. I won't remember the three hours I spent on the highway. I'll remember the turns I took leaving home or approaching my destination. Everything else is pointless, throw it in the recycling bin and delete it. My brain shortened my hospital visits to intro and exit, everything else got rounded down to "lying in this bed" or "eating jello".

  8. I still remember my last jury duty. It was sad to witness.

The defense really had nothing to say. So he spent the entire trial hitting us with our responsibility as jurors. Every step was punctuated with the level of doubt the evidence had to exceed.

Anyways. They showed us a video of the man doing it. We got some clear footage from a cop's dash cam of the man in the court room did the crime. It couldn't have been clearer. The dude was like… still in front of the camera for six seconds with his face on full display. In deliberation the verdict was quick. Nobody even argued. I hit the room with "Well. I watched him do it" and everyone agreed. He did it.

I'm convinced the defense had no idea what to say. They tried to discredit the cop driving the car that night like that somehow devalued a recording of the event. An uncut recording where we got a nice close view of the dude's face, not to mention full view of the crime happening. It wasn't even partially out of frame.

  9. Fun fact, I had a dentist break off part of a metal tool in my mouth during intense oral surgery. They sewed it up and a decade later I ended up in the most pain in my life (labor included) from it. All sorts of doctors can leave tools behind.

  10. People treat it like a shopping thing, because the medical field decides to treat us the customers Dr. Mike., the medical field also refuses to educate us thus people seek advice elsewhere. We are culturally regressing partly due to how the medical field is run, and the fact Doctors blame the patients and not the corporations that employs them is wild.

  11. I like this video but I feel like they didn’t watch the whole video or didn’t actually pay attention to it because some of the stuff they’re critiquing is not true

  12. Dr. Mike.
I'm suing you for poking me with needles and hitting my knee with a little hammer. /Joke

  13. Did that lawyer just called "hairy hands" "not normal"??? And that the "value" of non hairy hands are intrinsically higher?

  14. Gotta remember that grey's anatomy is a learning hospital and that was a 1st or 2nd year. I can't remember if she was still an intern or not

  15. Can't stand Shites Anathomy.
It has as much in common with medicine as Kardashians with real life.

  16. I am just watching this just a few years later. But what they are saying to her (the doctor) the promises that they are saying for the surgery for the patient in the episode is unrealistic, because the people are giving the promise is making claims for something that they can’t do.
I hope I am not in accurate but to be honest, the first few minutes after the lawsuit has been made was a little bit unrealistic. Love this video, you both are amazing YouTubers.

  17. I come back and watch this video sometimes, just because it's so nice to see the dynamic between these two. They both ask each other honest, open ended questions and they listen to each other so well and respond in a way that really shows how professional and mature they both are.

  18. Hey Dr Mike, can you do an episode about combat medicine from an old MASH episode please?

  19. I can confirm 3:26 . As a patient, some years ago when I was 21 I had a severe migraine after I got my first tattoo. The doctors checked me for everything but I read online that it could be that an infection went to my brain. I asked they test me for it….but I only learned what a spinal tap REALLY was when I saw that big-ass needle. Turns out my spinal fluid was crystal clear. Big mistake.
