  1. Another important case I came across was by the Kerala High Court, in the case of X v. Y, established that subjecting a wife to unwanted sexual acts constitutes both mental and physical cruelty, providing grounds for divorce. Despite the husband's acquittal in the criminal case, the court granted divorce in the civil case. The wife alleged that the husband engaged in coercive acts during their 17-day marriage, involving the use of objects and practices she refused to consent to. This, according to the court, inflicted mental agony on the wife, leading to the grant of divorce. Notably, these events unfolded shortly after the husband left for a job abroad, prompting the wife to file for divorce based on these distressing circumstances.
