Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud on Saturday praised the enactment of new criminal laws and said it was a clear indication of India’s evolution. He also said the enactment affects everyone, as well as the moral arc of society. The remarks by the Chief Justice of India came while he addressed a conference on ‘India’s progressive path in the administration of the criminal justice system’, in Delhi. Praising the enactment of the three new criminal laws (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam), the CJI said, “I think that the enactment of three new criminal laws by the Parliament is a watershed moment for our society, a clear indicator that India is changing.”
