Buster Murdaugh, the eldest son of disgraced South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, who last year was found guilty of murdering his wife Maggie and youngest son, Paul, filed a defamation lawsuit against Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery, among other companies. Filed last week in Hampton County, South Carolina, the lawsuit says the issue lies with connections made between Buster Murdaugh and the death of Stephen Smith in documentaries released by these companies. Eric Bland, a lawyer for Smith’s family, joins “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” to discuss.

  1. He lost his brother, his mother and the family fortune because of the greed of his father. People should have to pay him for painting this guy as a closeted gay murderer. Produce the evidence or pay him

  2. “Buster” has no reputation to sully- his corrupt, criminal family has made sure of that…

  3. I don't really think Buster did ever have anything to do with Stephen's death. But this lawsuit is most definitely not going to help him at all, in my opinion. His name is forever tarnished because of his last name and relationship with the murderer of his Mom and brother. He'd be better off to change his appearance however he can and move abroad somewhere. Again, my opinion. Heck, I'd probably change my name too.😊

  4. because asking the attorney of the plantiffs will warrant an honest and non-biased response.

  5. Eric Bland, seriously and MEDICALLY, despite the stylish tainted lenses in your new eyeglasses, the puffiness in your eyelids is showing, at least to a brilliant doctor. If YOUR doctor did not detect that, you should look for another.

Also, seriously and LEGALLY, civil discovery is a two-way street. Buster Murdaugh ("BM") gets to take depositions AND serve subpoenae. If I were Shaun Kent, and I am NOT a lawyer AT ALL, only better than most by the transcribed words of some jurists, I would start with Stephen Smith's ("SS") nursing school records.

My two differences with Dr. Michelle Dupree, who (thank God) proves that doctors can be hired but not bought, are that "intentional homicide" includes "intentional suicide" and she should have insisted on a psychiatric autopsy alongside the anatomical autopsy to give Sanctimonious Sandy Smith ("SSS") the real answers SSS pretends to be after.

Otherwise, chapeau bas pour Maitre Kent and Dr. Dupree; et patience et courage pour pauvre BM.

  6. Buster didn't do it! I hope he gets paid very well! I'm going with something from a vehicle hit Him(metal truck mirror, trailer, something hanging out/off the vehicle) because he was in the road. Driver prob had no idea drunk or not. Then everyone made a big deal because he's a Gay. Its obvious he didn't have common sense as he had to call his sister all the time for help. Poor investigation? Yes. Unless there is DNA that law enforcement hasn't said that's what I believe.

  7. I would absolutely love to find justice for Stephen and his family. Deep down I feel like Buster knows more than he is saying. However, if it was me and I was completely innocent I would do the same as Buster is. It will be a tell tail sign that he he moved forward that perhaps he is innocent. We will see!

  8. Poor buster. He inherited his father's ugly looks. Red hair. Fat. Paul got his mother's looks and was actually better looking than buster. The sins of the fathers- karma coming back for the family.

  9. If I was innocent I would defend my name!! Imagine being innocent it would affect your whole life! If he is guilty in any respect I would not! Being friends with Stephan Smith does not make you guilty! If Buster is guilty then maybe justice will happen for the Smith Family but if not Buster has the right to defend himself it feels as if everyone has judged him already!

  10. I'm so glad they have declared Steven's death I homicide. Buster filing a lawsuit is stupid on his part, but it may just be what breaks the case wide open. Justice for Steven!

  11. As much as I don't like the Murdaugh family I think that newspaper man that was named in the suit is going to lose.

  12. Sending thoughts and prayers to Sandy, and the entire smith family. We stand behind you all the way. Stay strong!

  13. I feel so bad for him . Dude lost his whole family and he’s being pounded by society.

He should really dye his hair to get some peace from public

  14. Very interesting. Stephen and his family need Justice, and answers for what went on. Eric has fought hard , for the family members that loved and lost Stephen. May he Rest In Peace. Regards from Ireland 🇮🇪

  15. All of the fault lies on his father. No one would know his name if it wasn't for what atrocities his father committed. Sue him

  16. I think the destruction and besmirching Buster Murdaugh's reputation and character came courtesy of his Father. Buster, dye your hair and get a suntan to develop a new reputation! Advice not Malice, it's just blunt.

  17. The Murdaughs have to be the worst lawyers I’ve ever seen. Perhaps they are blinded by their ego…STILL.
