Actually,it is the other way around.When I notice that somebody tends to use many phrasal verbs and idioms,I consider it "basic English".They might sound more natural or "native – like" but saying that a a fire was extinguished for instance will forever sound more advanced to me than saying it was "put out"
Could the mentioned advance english phrases be used in formal speach as well?
