On December 12, 2023, Home Minister Amit Shah presented three amended criminal law bills in the Lok Sabha. These bills are intended to replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act. Three similar bills were tabled and sent to the Standing Committee but were later withdrawn. The new bills have incorporated the suggestions made by the Committee. During the presentation, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress party had heated exchanges with Home Minister Shah.
