At this point in the Young Thug / YSL trial, I think we all need to accept the fact that a woman in Atlanta, Georgia, had her black Toyota Corolla stolen on May 11, 2016, possibly at gunpoint, and it shouldn’t have happened. She was victimized, and it wasn’t right.

The problem for the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is, what does that carjacking have to do with Young Thug and YSL, and the five co-defendants: Shannon Stillwell, Marquavius Huey, Rodalius Ryan, Quamarvious Nichols and Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick?

The carjacking is over act 61 of 191 that support the racketeering conspiracy charge against the men. The suspect is Christian Eppinger, an accused YSL gang member, but Eppinger is not on trial, and jurors have yet to hear how Eppinger stealing a car is connected to YSL the criminal gang.

The jury heard from a third witness regarding the carjacking this morning: Wesley Floyd, an officer with the Atlanta Police Department who arrested You can watch that exam here:

The bulkiest cross-examination was handled by Thug’s lawyer Keith Adams, who focused on the lack of YSL connections and questioned Officer Floyd about his lack of training regarding RICO investigation. (RICO stands for Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations.)

Adams begins with questions about Floyd’s current position at the police training academy.

01:04 “You teach them I would guess that there’s more to policing than simply chasing suspects and that sort of thing.”

04:40 “You’d never met Christian Eppinger before, right?”

05:10 “You’re not in his mind. You don’t know why he committed a carjacking on that day.”

08:06 “No information, no new evidence, nothing since 2016 that tells you that that case was a RICO-inspired carjacking.”

15:45 Matthews asks Floyd about the gang training that Atlanta police officers get, to try to emphasize that if the cops had seen gang ties when investigating the carjacking, they would have recognized it and documented it.

16:30 In re-direct, the prosecutor asks Floyd about his lack of training regarding racketeering aka RICO

19:25 Adams back at the lectern, asks Floyd about his ability to contact the gang unit if he thought carjacking had gang ties
